AKAI APC40 MKII
Deja VU? There was something very familiar about the APC40 MKII, and it took a while to put our finger on it. Not quite the five years it took AKAI to develop the APC40’s successor though.
But it was at least a month after the AKAI APC40 MKII landed with us that we noticed the similarity to the MPD controllers, it was as if AKAI had a load of cases left over and decided to squeeze the internals of the APC40 into an MPD case.
So a new look, what else got improved? Well we’ll take it as flattery that some of the features we built into Isotonik our first MaxforLive Performance Template made it into the MKII as standard features.
First up was the change of Button Matrix, away from the tri-color status for clips used by the MKI and the Novation LaunchPad, to visually represent the RGB colors of the clips in control within the Ring Focus Box in Session View.
Secondly the revised Fader design, a godsend for anyone who’d tired of digging underneath cabinets to find misplaced fader caps or had to get out the pliers to bend them back into shape!

LaunchSync XL
Rated 4.67 out of 5Sync Together Ableton Control Surfaces
PLEASE NOTE: This LaunchSync XL is not compatible with Scene Follow Actions in Live 11, this is due to the exclude feature which launches individual clips on a scene and doesn’t trigger the scene itself. A version without the Exclude feature for Live 11 is in development.
The LaunchSync Series began life over the coffee table in the office of Novation, the team there had an idea of syncing together their LaunchPad family with the forthcoming LaunchControl XL. As we developed the idea it became apparent that everyone has a different view of what made the perfect performance set up, whether it be an Ableton Push based one or revolve around an APC40MKII the same things became clear!
