We first started using Live as an Ableton Live DJ then as part of the Crashologists team and MaxforLive Beta testers we’ve been making feature requests that would enable us to build new devices based on our subscribers demands, the DJ Collection is the result of Live’s updates in version 9.2.

Isotonik Studios originated out of the desire to use Ableton as a real replacement for DVS systems like Serato and Traktor, the Bridge was good but didn’t satisfy our cravings for a single solution. With the DJ Collection we think we’ve nearly completed our journey in achieving this.

The DJ Collection currently consists of three devices, each of which have a Universal MIDI variety for use on a MIDI track with any MIDI controller. We also have fully integrated solutions for the Akai Apc40 MKII and the Ableton Push perfect for the Ableton Live DJ.

The DJ Hot cues device allows the performer to create and playback hot cues on a single clip, the cues themselves are written to the clip name so that they can be used across sets. The integrated versions give LED feedback on their respective controllers whereas the Universal Midi device allows the user to define the velocity of the feedback to the controller to use with say a LaunchControl XL.

Serato’s slicer effect first debuted on the NovationTwitch, we’ve been replicating it ever since using buffers and the like but now with our DJ Slicer we can jump to points in audio that haven’t been played yet. Creating a rolling loop zone divided into 8 slice points, each can be triggered on a quantised basis. With the Push version you can even slice up 8 tracks at the same time with one button.

The final device In the trilogy is an update to our popular Looper device, this now though allows looping to be set on the fly independent of the loop set on the clip. Loops can then be halved doubled or moved and uniquely even set to 1/32  as Maxforlive has only allowed down to 1/4 previously.

NOTE: DJ Looper is also available as part of the Modular Series a cross grade discount is applicable at checkout if purchasing both packs together at the same time.

Q. What are the Minimum System Requirements?

A. Ableton Live 9.7 & MaxforLive 7

Q. What’s the Installation Process?

A. If the files provided end in .amxd then these should be downloaded and saved to a folder on your harddrive, the files can then either be dragged into your Live set with the mouse or you can add a file path to the folder they’re contained within in the Live Browser.

If the files provided end in .alp then these are Ableton Live Packs, double clicking them open will usually provide a warning regarding the files “Legacy” status, this is nothing to worry about, it’s just the only way we can make a pack that will install itself into your Live browser alongside the factory content.

Our Products are generally provided as Zip file downloads which in all cases will need to be extracted and saved to your hard drive prior to installation. Details on the different file type provided and what to do with them are below.

.alp Files – These are Ableton Live Packs and will install directly into the Packs Section of the browser of Ableton Live. When you double click on them you will see a pop up window asking you to confirm that installation is ok as the files are described as “Legacy”. This is fine and you are ok to proceed, the packs are created using the format for an earlier version of Live and so remain compatible with the current version.

.amxd files – These are individual MaxforLive Devices and can be stored anywhere on your hard drive. We’d advise creating a folder for them and then adding that folder as a location within the Places section of Lives Browser.

Control Surface Scripts – Please refer to the individual User Guides provided with your download, an abridged version of the installation will be shown further down this page.

ClyphX Pro – Please refer directly to the manual and installation video for this specific product.

Novation Circuit Packs – These are provided as individual Sysex Files and as a complete bank file. All are to be installed using a version of the Circuit Editor and not via Novations Components back up utility.
