Crystal Goblets & Eugene is a Free Ableton Live Pack & Kontakt Instrument created by PerforModule & FlintPope, add some chime to your productions!

The best way we thought of introducing this free Ableton Live / Kontakt Instrument Pack was to ask the collaborative geniuses behind it how it came into being, we introduce PerforModule & FlintPope… Animus & Nick!

First Up, Animus…

“I was living in Eugene, Oregon, USA, in 2005. I borrowed a set of crystal wine goblets of various sizes from the musician “Disharmony of the Spheres” (which she would play in her live setup with a violin bow). Each of them I filled with water and tuned, recording every chromatic note possible with each goblet, in the top floor of an old wooden house. The samples have an eerie quality, with each particular goblet having its own character, sometimes with a rubbing or squeaking sound also emerging which adds to the creepy atmosphere.

The Ableton Instrument  includes every one of the samples pitched to be able to play with any MIDI instrument in-key, perfect for ambient soundscapes. It’s divided into five main groupings of notes to select between, so is basically 5 full instruments in one.

I hit up Nick to see if he wanted to collaborate on an instrument, and these samples which i had not released publicly yet seemed like a great option.”

The download includes both Simpler & Sampler varieties of the Live Instrument, making it available to Live Suite and Live Standard users….

So what does Nick have to say?

“Animus and I have been aware of each others work for a while now so it was cool when he asked me to collab on an Ableton instrument of his. However, my enthusiasm lately has taken me into wiring-up Native Instruments Kontakt and Reaktor ensembles so we agreed I’d do an NI partner instrument to his goblets samples called Eugene.

The controls are: sample start, A and R, filter cutoff and resonance, 2 LFOs, one a multi and the other either a sine or a square depending on preset, chorus, delay and reverb.

Don’t move or delete the items named KGM_…nkr and nkc or the Resources folder as Eugene uses these to create the GUI and find the samples.”

A quick resume of the Eugene Kontakt variations included here.

  1. Eugene Bleep utilises the Beat Machine setting of Kontakt to get a repetitive repeat.
  2. Eugene LoFi has a Tone Machine setting and no FX to get that fuzzy, grainy feel of an old synth.
  3. Eugene Museum has a slow attack, long release, long reverb and a chorus FX to give a haunted, lonely sound.
  4. Eugene Rhythmic has an LFO generated glitch/repeat
  5. Eugene Synth is a permanently arpeggiating organ.
  6. Eugene Waters has a lot of everything on it and has that cave feeling.
  7. Eugene shows off some of the richness of the samples in conjunction with all of the FX.

So in this first collaboration for Isotonik Studios we present to you Crystal Goblets & Eugene…

If you like it let us know, we may just be able to bend the pair’s arm behind their backs to work on more projects together!

Our Products are generally provided as Zip file downloads which in all cases will need to be extracted and saved to your hard drive prior to installation. Details on the different file type provided and what to do with them are below.

.alp Files – These are Ableton Live Packs and will install directly into the Packs Section of the browser of Ableton Live. When you double click on them you will see a pop up window asking you to confirm that installation is ok as the files are described as “Legacy”. This is fine and you are ok to proceed, the packs are created using the format for an earlier version of Live and so remain compatible with the current version.

.amxd files – These are individual MaxforLive Devices and can be stored anywhere on your hard drive. We’d advise creating a folder for them and then adding that folder as a location within the Places section of Lives Browser.

Control Surface Scripts – Please refer to the individual User Guides provided with your download, an abridged version of the installation will be shown further down this page.

ClyphX Pro – Please refer directly to the manual and installation video for this specific product.

Novation Circuit Packs – These are provided as individual Sysex Files and as a complete bank file. All are to be installed using a version of the Circuit Editor and not via Novations Components back up utility.
