The aptly named GrooveSlice boasts a stunning array of both innovative and classic features.
It functions as a parametric delay with separate parameters for recording and playback, and allows the user to dictate loop boundaries, manually or automatically retrigger record/play, control the speed and direction of playback (in several ways), and even create and entirely new loop by recording to different areas of a loop and freezing it in place. The automatic retrigger, and its ability to use pythagorean harmony ratios for speed adjustment make it the most musical audio manipulator on the market.
Along with this control comes the ability to actually see what you are controlling. There is a window showing your loop, where you can see what’s recorded, select loop boundaries and watch the playhead. Also included is an incredibly accurate oscilloscope, showing the input signal, the wet signal, and the mixed signal in different colors so the user knows where each sound is coming from, and how they relate.
Used by hand, GrooveSlice transforms the experience of performing live. One can scratch a live drummer, create gorgeous dualing guitar melodies, turn their voice into an alien choir or transform a drum machine into a polyrhythm powerhouse. Used with automation or the included control packs, it gains an (insane) mind of its own and goes far beyond the capabilities of anything else we’ve seen…
