Description

BOINGBLOCK

Boing Block is based on a monome device which provides an easy and fun interface for creating polymetric rhythms. It allows for different directional modes for more sequence lengths. The app can run from the Lightpad’s internal clocking ability (which is limited to arbitrary speeds and can’t provide specific BPM values) or by an external clock source.

It will also advance once step each time it receives a C-2 note, which can allow for different speeds and odd sequencing.

INSTRUCTIONS

Simply set the direction on the bottom row. Ascending and descending are essentially the same, moving in one direction, and the square will move in the fashion of a bouncing ball.

Now strike in one of the rows above. The distance from the bottom where you press will dictate the length of the sequence. The velocity level of the played note will be based on the strike.

For example, with descending mode if you press in the top row, there will be a sequence of 5 steps with a note when it hits the bottom. With bounce mode it will be 8 steps long as it moves down and then back up again before retriggering.

In Dashboard, you can choose from a number of scales which set the notes up. You can set it to have fixed velocity and also randomise the velocity of each hit. Since the device is not taking advantage of aftertouch or MPE, it operates on a single channel.

Using the side button you can bring up a menu page to change the root note on the fly.

PLEASE NOTE: ALSO AVAILABLE AS PART OF THE LDM ROLI BLOCKS PACK

LDM Devices

LDM Design is a project which started life in 2016, recreating Monome apps in Max For Live to use natively on the Launchpad Mini, which are still freely available on his website. He also created the popular glitchy multi-FX sequencer devices Manglerack and MangleFX, influenced by the legendary Illformed Glitch VST. Since then the project has expanded into making all kinds of M4L devices, always taking care in designing a clean, unique GUI. Many of his devices also show a love for introducing various degrees of chaos and probability into music production. His first release for Isotonik, the LP Pack, continued recreating and improving upon classic Monome apps and original ideas to expand the creative potential of the Novation Launchpad Mk1 and Mk2. Next, as a homage to the great Brian Eno and his creative processes, LDM then released the best-selling Chance 10 Pack, which is a selection of modules utilizing chaos and probability to affect various elements of production. There are a number of great free devices available on his website – ldmdesign.org. Chords in Key converts single MIDI notes into chords based on a set key, Gravity Delay is a fun ‘bouncing ball’ MIDI delay, and Autosputter is for live glitchy audio slicing, based on the old Instajungle VST. LDM Design continues to work on projects for Isotonik and his own website which will be available soon.

BoingBlock User Guide

Our Products are generally provided as Zip file downloads which in all cases will need to be extracted and saved to your hard drive prior to installation. Details on the different file type provided and what to do with them are below.

.alp Files – These are Ableton Live Packs and will install directly into the Packs Section of the browser of Ableton Live. When you double click on them you will see a pop up window asking you to confirm that installation is ok as the files are described as “Legacy”. This is fine and you are ok to proceed, the packs are created using the format for an earlier version of Live and so remain compatible with the current version.

.amxd files – These are individual MaxforLive Devices and can be stored anywhere on your hard drive. We’d advise creating a folder for them and then adding that folder as a location within the Places section of Lives Browser.

Control Surface Scripts – Please refer to the individual User Guides provided with your download, an abridged version of the installation will be shown further down this page.

ClyphX Pro – Please refer directly to the manual and installation video for this specific product.

Novation Circuit Packs – These are provided as individual Sysex Files and as a complete bank file. All are to be installed using a version of the Circuit Editor and not via Novations Components back up utility.

ROLI Apps – Open the ROLI Dashboard and connect your BLOCKS controller, then drag the .littlefoot file onto the image of the BLOCK.
