COMBINING OUR XL SCRIPTS AND THE POWER OF PREDITOR
Isotonik’s PrEditor is the powerful mapping functionality Ableton forgot. It lets you customize the mappings of a variety of controllers to your music software, opening up custom controller arrangements and tailored interactions to support the way you play.
And the latest version does still more. Hackers and patchers will love this – whatever tool they use. If you use Reaktor, that environment is available – doubly useful now because of Reaktor’s beautiful Blocks modular environment. (There are quite a few things I prefer in Reaktor, so being able to map its controls to my Push means I may completely rethink how I do some of my live sets.)
If you prefer Max for Live, previously invisible parameters are now visible.
Native Instruments’ Kontakt is supported in this version, too, with Komplete Kontrol coming soon. That means if the Komplete Kontrol devices aren’t quite your fancy, you can still use your favorite NI software with the controller of your choice.
Also in this release, you can do more with banks – take custom-named banks, reorder them, copy/paste, and more.
This builds on a steady drumbeat of updates, which included making your own maps for Max for Live and VSTs, compatibility with the Akai APC line, Ableton’s own flagship Push and Push 2, and even the ability to unlock features that normally require those Push devices to other use cases.
Below you’ll find details of how PrEditor combines with our custom Control Surface Scripts, each bundle brings together PrEditor (which is supplied with scripts for the Ableton Push ONE & TWO and AKAI APC40 MKI & MKII as standard) and the script to extend control of a popular MIDI controller…
PrEditor & LCXXL (Novation LaunchControl XL) – £36.00
The Novation LaunchControl XL get’s a supercharge with this extended Control Surface Script with particular focus on Device and Send/Return Control, hook it up with PrEditor and define banks of 24 parameters at a time…
- 24 Pots control parameters of the currently in focus device
- Device left/right & on / off
- Parameter bank up / down
- Track volume & track select
- Return Track Control with user configuration
- The option to have three sends as standard rather than just two and the Pan control
- User configuration of the number of tracks each press of the Track Left or Right will increment in
PrEditor & LCX (Novation LaunchControl) – £32.00
PrEditor & MIDIMIX XL (AKAI MIDIMIX) – £36.00
As a budget controller the inbuilt integration with Ableton Live is basic at best, some would argue it’s a pity for such potential! So with our XL Upgrade you’ll benefit from the following:
First up – if a Controller is going to take up a Control Surface Slot in Live then it deserves at the very least the onscreen Ring Focus Box, with a 1 x 8 box showing you visually which eight tracks are being controlled by the MIDIMIX, it’s lack of LED’s can be partially excused.
Secondly – Any controller that get’s the Isotonik touch is certain to have LaunchSync compatibility, with this you can use the MIDIMIX as the Master or Slave controller linking it with an Ableton Push or adding further controls to an AKAI APC40 or a Novation LaunchPad!
Thirdly – We’ve done it before and this is the latest controller to get the magic of our 24 Parameter device control, simply tap the SOLO button and the Mute buttons control the selection of the first 8 devices on the Track in focus, the REC ARM buttons turn the devices on and off whilst the 24 Potentiometers Blue Hand Map to the device in focus….
Bank Left and Bank Right then allow you to cycle through all of the available parameters, so grab hold of an Operator and have complete control over your tweaking with just one controller!
Fourthly – There’s further options for controlling three sends on the Pots rather than just two and the Pan which is switchable from the controller when enabled in the Config.txt file. And there’s a choice of Returns Mode as well…
PrEditor & BCR XL (Behringer BCR 2000) – £36.00
With many similar features of our XL range of scripts the Behringer BCR200 gets upgraded with the following:
– Device lock
– Track fold/unfold
– Banking of send controls allowing all sends on the focused tracks to be controlled
– Use all 32 encoders to control devices in device mode (option)
– Direct banking allowing easy access to first 4 banks of device (option)
– Configure which BCR control buttons are used for control of the script freeing up 4 buttons to be used for user mapping
– Added LaunchSync compatibility with the LaunchSync Series
PrEditor & BCF XL (Behringer BCF 2000) – £36.00
With it’s motorised faders and LED ringed encoders it’s a surprise to us that no-ones yet come up with a definitive script for it, we’d like to think that we’ve solved that conundrum and with this script the oft forgotten controller can once again have the dust brushed off it and take pride of place in the Ableton Live Performers set up.
The Push Encoders at the top of the device can be used to select tracks as well as being switchable between Mixer Mode, where you can choose which Send is being controlled for each of the eight tracks, with our Config.txt you can define whether this mode switches to control Pan on each track instead. The Buttons beneath give you Mute and Solo, or if you prefer you can switch configuration to look after Solo and Arm instead.
Device Mode is switchable with one of the Control Buttons on the Controller and the Push Encoders will change to Device Control focusing on whatever is Blue-handed within Live, the buttons beneath then allow you to switch between the first eight devices on a track with the the bottom row of buttons giving you device on / off…
The Control Buttons to the right of the BCF 2000 give live control over various functions, whether it be moving up and down the banks of the controlled device, and device lock, in the Device Mode or Folding.Unfolding Tracks and moving up and down the available Send that’s being controlled in Mixer Mode.
Our Config.txt options include switching into 14_Bit mode for even finer control, various Returns Modes allowing return tracks to be controlled by the controller either when in view or permanently taking over the right hand side.
PrEditor & NKSXL (Korg NanoKontrol Studio) – £38.00
