Ian Johnston is the developer behind ijo audio, a project dedicated to crafting unique and inspiring Max for Live devices for Ableton Live. With a day job in web development and over a decade of experience as a musician and producer, Ian has been exploring the depths of Ableton Live since version 8, always searching for new ways to push creative boundaries.


After years of experimentation, he found the perfect intersection of his passions in Max for Live development—a space where technology, sound design, and musical expression converge. His goal is to build devices that aren’t just functional but feel alive—tools that spark creativity, invite exploration, and offer something truly different. Whether it’s a novel approach to sequencing, a tool for deep sonic manipulation, or an effect that pushes sound beyond its familiar boundaries, every ijo audio device is designed with soul and character in mind.


Through ijo audio, Ian aims to provide artists, producers, and sonic explorers with tools that enhance their workflow, inspire new ideas, and encourage experimentation.
