Asteroids by Mark Towers

Notes Play when Asteroids Collide

Asteroids is a MaxforLive Generative Sequencer that can be used on it’s own or integrated with Ableton Live supported controllers. Designed and created by Ableton Certified Trainer Mark Towers the device takes it’s inspiration from the hours spent spinning the Circular Dial and hitting the boost button to avoid the oncoming space rocks, then layering them into oblivion!

“When i first loaded up Asteroids i had a melody going in seconds, i keep going back to it in moments where i lack inspiration, it never fails to deliver! I can’t wait to see what Mark and the rest of the Isotonik Crew come up with…”

FUNKAGENDA

Asteroids works in standalone mode or can be controlled directly by the Ableton PUSH & Push TWO or Novation LaunchPad MKI & MKII & LaunchPad PRO MKI & MKII

Advanced sequencing modes makes Asteroids a powerful sequencer for both experimental/generative melodic sequences or intricate/polyrhythmic drum patterns

Notes are played when Asteroids collide, add more Asteroids for more notes and turn on the Ghost Machine for Echo Notes…

Operational in Note or Drum Rack mode you can use multiple versions of the device with different instruments and create a track from scratch.

With control over the direction, path and speed of each asteroid you can quickly come up with some madly addictive melodies and rhythms…

And it even has an addition Ghost Machine which generates additional notes based on where the asteroids meet on the grid. It has independent control for delay, octave, velocity, random, and chance. All ghost notes will be generated in the same scale as selected in the scale menu.

MODES OF OPERATION

Keys – Use this mode if using a chromatic instrument, it activates the MIDI section, in this mode, notes are generated when two or more asteroids meet, the note being generated is based on the scale selected, various MIDI settings, and the position of where the asteroids meet.

Drums – Use this mode with a drum rack (or drum instrument), it deactivates the main MIDI section and the Ghost Notes section, a new user interface appears replacing Ghost Notes. In this mode each asteroid is assigned a specific MIDI note value, by default this starts at C1, the intention here is to use this mode with a drum rack. When two or more asteroids meet, the will generate the note they have been assigned, regardless of where on the grid they meet. Use the sliders to control the settings of the notes being generated

Also available as part of the Arcade Series One and completes the line up consisting of PolyPin, Tetriq and Pong Deluxe

Our Products are generally provided as Zip file downloads which in all cases will need to be extracted and saved to your hard drive prior to installation. Details on the different file type provided and what to do with them are below.

.alp Files – These are Ableton Live Packs and will install directly into the Packs Section of the browser of Ableton Live. When you double click on them you will see a pop up window asking you to confirm that installation is ok as the files are described as “Legacy”. This is fine and you are ok to proceed, the packs are created using the format for an earlier version of Live and so remain compatible with the current version.

.amxd files – These are individual MaxforLive Devices and can be stored anywhere on your hard drive. We’d advise creating a folder for them and then adding that folder as a location within the Places section of Lives Browser.

Control Surface Scripts – Please refer to the individual User Guides provided with your download, an abridged version of the installation will be shown further down this page.

ClyphX Pro – Please refer directly to the manual and installation video for this specific product.

Novation Circuit Packs – These are provided as individual Sysex Files and as a complete bank file. All are to be installed using a version of the Circuit Editor and not via Novations Components back up utility.
