Alexkid - Sequencer Bundle C

Three bundles down, one vision perfected. Sequencer Bundle C by AlexKid represents the culmination of years of sequencing innovation—taking everything learned from the journey and pushing it further with chromatic modes, user-programmable scales, poly Euclidean rhythms, and expanded capabilities that redefine what’s possible with MaxforLive sequencing.

Updated and optimized for Live 10 (and compatible with Live 11 and 12), Bundle C introduces breakthrough features: SHIFT functions for quick pattern manipulation, fully customizable scales you program yourself via MIDI learn, and expanded step counts that give you more room to create evolving polyrhythmic patterns. This isn’t just another sequencer bundle—it’s the perfect complement to everything that came before, completing AlexKid’s sequencing trilogy with tools that push the limits of what Ableton Live can do.

The Collection

Automaton – Dual-Purpose Parameter Powerhouse

Parameter automation reaches new heights with Automaton, available in both MIDI and Audio versions. This 16-step sequencer features a gate line plus three independent parameter lines (A, B, C), each capable of controlling any mappable parameter in Ableton Live—from synth filters and reverb decays to compressor thresholds and audio effects.

The architecture mirrors AlexKid’s signature approach: each of the four lines features independent length (1-16 steps) and four play modes (forward, backward, bidirectional, random). But Automaton takes this foundation and expands it specifically for parameter control, giving you unprecedented ability to create evolving timbral sequences that phase against your musical patterns.

Here’s how it works: The gate line defines your rhythm, with clock division (defaulting to 16th notes) and swing controls. The three parameter lines (A, B, C) then sequence values for your mapped targets. Click the map button, select any parameter in Live, and that line now controls it. The mapped parameter name appears on the interface for easy reference.

Min and Max values for each parameter line give you precise control over the intensity and range of modulation. Set subtle variations or extreme sweeps—the choice is yours. If results feel too extreme, simply adjust these values to attenuate the effect, or even reverse it for inverted parameter movement.

Each parameter line features individual step/gate mode toggle. In step mode, the line advances with the clock division. In gate mode, it only advances when the gate line triggers—creating complex polyrhythmic parameter modulation where effects evolve independently of your rhythm pattern.

Individual randomization per line plus global randomization buttons provide instant inspiration. Reset functions (individual and global) let you zero out lines or restore them to specific values quickly. The on/off toggle mutes output while keeping the sequencer running—essential for arrangement and performance work.

Automaton MIDI works with MIDI tracks and instruments. Automaton Audio operates on audio effects and channel parameters. Choose based on what you’re sequencing, or use both simultaneously for complete production control.

Press4Acid Advanced – Extended Acid Evolution

Take everything you loved about Press4Acid from Bundle B and expand it to 16 steps with fully programmable scales. Press4Acid Advanced is the ultimate tool for creating complex, evolving acid basslines with authentic TB-303 behavior and modern flexibility.

The core architecture remains: four independent sequence lines (gate, pitch, accent, glide) creating the signature acid sound. But the expansion to 16 steps gives you double the pattern length for more intricate sequences that evolve over longer cycles. Combined with the programmable scale feature, you’re no longer limited to preset scales—define your own harmonic frameworks via MIDI learn.

The gate line defines your rhythm with adjustable clock division, swing, and note length. The pitch line creates your melody, now with the ability to program custom scales that match your track’s harmonic content exactly. The accent line emphasizes specific steps with separate velocity values for accented and normal notes. The glide line triggers portamento on your monophonic synth, creating those classic sliding basslines.

Each line features adjustable length (1-16 steps) and multiple play modes. Set a 13-step pitch against an 11-step gate against a 7-step glide, and watch as your acid bassline evolves over bars, creating patterns that never quite repeat yet remain perfectly musical.

The advanced mode toggle switches between step and gate modes. In gate mode, pitch, accent, and glide only advance when gates fire—enabling even more intricate polyrhythmic relationships. Individual randomization per line plus the global “Press4Acid” button (optimized for musical results) delivers instant 303-style inspiration.

Works perfectly with monophonic synths featuring glide/portamento: Roland TB-03, Native Instruments Monark, Ableton Analog, and hardware mono synths. The expanded 16-step format gives you room to create complete bassline arrangements within a single sequencer instance.

Discombobulator – Euclidean Groove Generator

African rhythms meet Euclidean mathematics in Discombobulator, an 8-step sequencer designed specifically for creating offbeat rhythms and polyrhythmic grooves that would be nearly impossible to program manually. This is where mathematical precision creates organic, danceable patterns.

Discombobulator features two main components: a trig sequencer (for rhythm) and a note sequencer (for melody), each with independent Euclidean controls that generate complex polyrhythmic relationships automatically.

The trig sequencer uses Euclidean rhythm generation: set your trigs per bar (how many triggers), divisions per bar (how they’re quantized), and clock division (speed). The algorithm distributes triggers across the bar as evenly as possible, creating the mathematical precision that defines Euclidean rhythms—yet the results sound organic and musical, not robotic.

Direction and length controls (1-8 steps, forward/backward/bidirectional/random) add further variation. The trig reset function replaces all values with a programmed value, while randomization generates new patterns instantly.

The note sequencer operates similarly but adds custom scale programming via MIDI learn. Here’s how it works: Enable MIDI input, set how many notes you want in your scale, press Learn, and play notes on your MIDI controller. Discombobulator records these notes and forces all melodic output into this custom scale—ensuring even maximum randomization stays harmonically coherent with your track.

The note sequencer also features direction, length, and velocity controls. The velocity setting is particularly useful for modulation mapping, adding dynamic variation beyond just pitch. Pitch reset and randomization functions work identically to the trig line.

The beauty of Discombobulator lies in how the trig and note sequencers interact. Set different Euclidean parameters for each, use different lengths, vary the play modes—suddenly you have polyrhythmic patterns that shift and evolve, creating grooves that feel simultaneously structured and improvisational.

This sequencer shines for creating percussion patterns, melodic loops with African or Middle Eastern flavor, experimental rhythmic beds, and any situation where you want mathematically-generated patterns that retain human groove. The Euclidean engine does the heavy lifting; you get the musical results.

Breakthrough Features

Bundle C introduces several industry-first capabilities:

Chromatic Mode: Break free from forced scales when you need it. Toggle to chromatic mode for unrestricted note access, then return to forced scales for guided creativity.

User-Programmable Scales: Don’t limit yourself to preset scales. Use MIDI learn to define your own harmonic frameworks—exotic scales, microtonal tunings, modal systems, whatever your music demands.

Poly Euclidean Rhythms: Discombobulator’s dual Euclidean engines create complex polyrhythmic patterns that would take hours to program manually, yet remain perfectly musical and groove-focused.

SHIFT Functions: Quick pattern manipulation and transformation controls for rapid experimentation and performance variation.

Extended Step Counts: 16 steps on Automaton and Press4Acid Advanced provide more room for evolving patterns and longer sequence cycles.

Unified Workflow

Bundle C maintains AlexKid’s design philosophy while pushing boundaries:

  • Analog-inspired interface – Immediate control, no menu diving
  • Polyrhythmic architecture – Independent line lengths for evolving patterns
  • Multiple play modes – Forward, backward, bidirectional, random per line
  • Full Push 2 mapping – Complete hands-on control
  • Step vs Gate modes – Fundamental behavioral changes for creative flexibility
  • Intelligent randomization – Musical results even at maximum chaos
  • Custom scale programming – Define your own harmonic frameworks
  • Euclidean rhythm generation – Mathematical precision meets organic groove

Creative Applications

Use Automaton to sequence filter cutoffs on three different synths simultaneously, each on different polyrhythmic cycles—creating evolving timbral landscapes. Map one line to reverb send, another to delay feedback, another to distortion drive, and watch as your effects become rhythmic elements.

Route Press4Acid Advanced to your favorite mono synth and program 16-step acid sequences with custom scales that match your track’s key perfectly. The extended length enables complete bassline arrangements with intro, verse, and drop variations all within one sequencer.

Deploy Discombobulator on melodic percussion or tonal elements. Set 5 trigs over 8 divisions on the rhythm line, 7 notes over 13 divisions on the melody line, and program a custom pentatonic scale—instant African-influenced grooves that breathe and evolve.

Combine Bundle C with Bundles A and B for the ultimate sequencing ecosystem: Coin Locker Babies for ambient generation, Empirical for hardware CC automation, Press4Acid Advanced for extended basslines, Hats4Dayz for hi-hats, Discombobulator for polyrhythmic melodies, and Automaton for evolving effect automation. Every creative need, covered.

How to Use

Drop Automaton MIDI or Audio onto the appropriate track type. Click the map buttons for lines A, B, and C, then select your target parameters. Program or randomize sequences, adjust min/max ranges, and experiment with step/gate modes per line for complex parameter evolution.

Route Press4Acid Advanced to a monophonic synth with glide/portamento. Program your custom scale via the interface or use presets. Create your 16-step pattern manually or use randomization, then fine-tune accent and glide lines for that perfect acid sequence.

Insert Discombobulator on a MIDI track. Set your Euclidean parameters (trigs per bar, divisions per bar) for both rhythm and melody sections. Program your custom scale via MIDI learn, then experiment with different direction modes and lengths for instant polyrhythmic grooves.

All sequencers feature the on/off toggle for muting while keeping sequences running. Full Push 2 mapping enables complete hands-on control during production and performance.
