OktoPush THREE by Isotonik Studios & PerforModule

The more I worked with MaxforLive and the Push 3 Standalone the more I realised I wanted to build a massive performance template for it!

You can join in as I build OktoPush THREE in public by following the playlist produced in conjunction with Create Digital Music, the basic device will continue to be released for free and contain the theory behind the interactivity between the Push and Live. The concept being if you’re into programming yourself you can get hold of the code and build your own devices.

Not everyone wants to do that though so OktoPush THREE is the alternative, a premium performance template that we’ll be building over a period of time, increasing the price with each new release. We’ll be adding new features via MaxforLive devices and including performance effect racks courtesy of effects wizard PerforModule!

Our intent is to use MaxforLive to create 8 separate modes of control to the Push 3 that you can switch between by pressing SHIFT and one of the SCENE LAUNCH BUTTONS.

OKTOPUSH THREE – ACTIVATION & SELECTING MODES

Switching into OktoPush mode can be done with a variety of methods:

  1. Select the Track and then select the Push 3 Control Master Device, you’ll see the parameters on the screen will include a Grab/Release control assigned to an encoder for manual release prior to deleting the device.
  2. Select an Audio Track and press the NOTE MODE Button.
  3. Hold down the SHIFT Button and select a scene launch button that’s coloured orange, the button coloured green is the currently selected scene, pressing this whilst already in OktoPush mode will exit.
  4. Pressing SHIFT & SELECT will toggle in and out of OKTOPUSH Mode

OKTOPUSH THREE – MODE ONE

OKTOPUSH:MODE – ONE provides powerful, automatic control over an Isotonik Rack on the selected track. This mode is ideal for performance scenarios where you need to manipulate a variety of effects or parameters instantly using the Push 3’s button matrix.

Functionality

  • When OKTOPUSH:MODE – ONE is activated, the Push 3 Button Matrix will reconfigure to control the Isotonik Rack on the currently selected track., which can be positioned anywhere within the device view.

Control Layout

  • Rows 1 and 2 (Top Rows):
Control the 16 macros for the Isotonik Rack. The macros are mapped to these buttons, providing tactile control over your effects or parameters.
  • Rows 3 and 4:
These rows display the Macro Variations. Use these to quickly morph between different preset values of the macros. The buttons will light up according to the variation selected.
  • Row 5:
Variation Speed can be adjusted here using the Velocity control. When selected, the speed of morphing between variations will be determined by the velocity of the button press. You can switch between variations instantly using the latest Push 3 firmware, or use the Jog Wheel for more precise control.
  • Rows 7 and 8 (Bottom Two Rows):
These rows handle the chain selector for the Isotonik Rack, allowing you to choose the effect to control. These rows will display different effects defined by the Isotonik Rack’s preset chains, letting you switch between them with ease.

You can save a macro variation to be associated with multiple chains.

OKTOPUSH THREE – MODE TWO

OKTOPUSH:MODE – TWO provides control over the send levels and return tracks in your Ableton Live set. This mode is perfect for quickly adjusting the amount of audio sent to your return tracks, ideal for performance scenarios where you want to control the depth of effects like reverb, delay, and more.

Functionality

  • When OKTOPUSH:MODE – TWO is activated, the Push 3 Button Matrix will be reconfigured to control the send values of the currently selected track. This allows you to easily punch audio to your return tracks for effect processing.

Control Layout

  • Columns 1 to 8:
These columns correspond to the send values of the currently selected track. The buttons will adjust the amount of audio sent to each return track. Pressing a button increases the send level, while releasing it resets the value to zero.

    • Momentary Mode: The buttons behave in a momentary fashion by default, meaning the send level will increase while the button is held down and return to zero when released.
    • Latch Mode: Holding Shift while pressing a button will increase the send level, and releasing it will keep the send at that value instead of resetting it to zero.
  • Return XL Device:
Return XL is a device that expands the control of your return tracks by giving you access to the first device on each return track. When OKTOPUSH:MODE – TWO is activated, the Push 3 Button Matrix can be used to switch between the Return Tracks. To control the first device within the track, hold down Select and choose one of the top row of buttons. The currently active Return Track will be lit white, providing clear feedback of which track is being controlled.
  • Variation Control:
When holding down the SELECT button, the third & fourth row of the Button Matrix will allow you to select between up to 16 macro variations on the currently selected return track device. If no variation is currently selected, these buttons will be lit a dull white, indicating an unselected state.

OKROPUSH THREE – MODE THREE – EIGHT – IN DEVELOPMENT

Check the change log to see which features have been added to see the progress.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS TEMPLATE HAS BEEN TESTED TO WORK WITH THE PUSH 3 STANDALONE & CONTROLLER. WE HOPE TO EXTEND THE TESTING TO PUSH TWO FOR FUTURE RELEASES
