CS 30 by Cluster Sound

CS-30 is a totally techno oriented loop & instrument Live Pack based on the rare CS-30, a monster of a synth, the flagship model of Yamaha’s vintage line-up of mono synthesizers.

Released by Yamaha in 1977, the CS-30 is a massive analog synth with a highly-tweakable, knob-filled interface. Designed for experimental synthesis, it’s a hugely flexible sound-tank with complex routing facilities, capable of generating sounds otherwise only achievable with big modular synths using wires. A very inspiring instrument for serious electronic music, used by artists like Carl Cox, 808 State, Mathew Jonson, and Depeche Mode.

The black techno tank

The Yamaha CS-30 is a fully analog synthesizer featuring 2 oscillators with PWM and Ring Modulation capabilities, 2 multimode resonant filters, 3 assignable envelopes, one LFO and a stunning analog 8-steps sequencer. The two filters, combinable in serial or parallel, can be swept using separate envelopes and modulated by the LFO and the step sequencer. The three envelopes can be also assigned to the LFO and the step sequencer for very unusual, radical modulations.

Formats : KONTAKT + LIVE

Size : 1.5 Gigabytes

4200 WAV Samples (24 Bits / 44.1 Khz)

90 Multi-Sampled Synth Patches

  • One sample per note
  • Seamless loop points
  • No crossfade looping
  • Sampled with Class A gears

The Live version of CS-30 has been designed to perfectly fit into your Ableton Live. All the included devices can be directly installed in your “Packs” section and previewed when selected in the Live browser. They have also been organized in Live standardized categories so that you can find them also in the browser’s “Categories” section. Moreover, all the sounds included in CS-30 have similar perceived volumes and feature 6 macro controls templates with volume compensation to avoid unwanted distortions.

The Kontakt version of CS-30 includes PRIMUS, a virtual instrument with an ultra-friendly interface and a solid set of synthesizer parameters. All the sounds included in CS-30 can be easily selected using the Waveform menu and then tweaked using 25 different filters with cutoff and resonance, one multishape LFO assignable to Filter, Volume and Pitch and two envelopes for filter and amplifier. PRIMUS implements also a Glide effect, a Unison with up to 4 stacked voices and a set of built-in effect.

Frequently Asked Questions

CS-30 is available as a Kontakt instrument and an Ableton Live Pack, so you will need either Native Instruments Kontakt or Ableton Live installed to use it. Make sure you check the specific version requirements before purchasing.

The Yamaha CS-30 is a rare, fully analog monophonic synthesiser released in 1977, renowned for its complex modular-style routing, dual oscillators, ring modulation, and multimode filters. It has been used by artists including Carl Cox, Depeche Mode, and 808 State, making it a highly sought-after source of experimental and techno sounds.

Yes, CS-30 is a combined loop and instrument Live Pack, so you get both ready-to-use techno-oriented loops and playable sampled instruments built from the original hardware.

CS-30 is firmly aimed at techno, experimental, and industrial electronic music production. Expect raw, aggressive synth tones, deep modulated bass sounds, and the kind of complex textures that are difficult to achieve without access to large modular systems.

For the Ableton Live Pack version, simply double-click the .alp file and Live will handle the installation automatically. For the Kontakt version, extract the files and add the folder to your Kontakt library browser using the Add Library or Files tab.

Yes, if you add three or more paid Cluster Sound packs to your cart, a 20% discount is applied automatically at checkout, making it a great opportunity to build out your collection.

You will typically need the full version of Native Instruments Kontakt to load third-party libraries like this one, as Kontakt Player only supports officially NKS-licensed instruments. Check the product requirements listed on the product page to confirm the minimum version needed.

Important Information

Initial Release – July 2025

Our Products are generally provided as Zip file downloads which in all cases will need to be extracted and saved to your hard drive prior to installation. Details on the different file type provided and what to do with them are below.

.alp Files – These are Ableton Live Packs and will either install directly into the Packs Section of the browser of Ableton Live or ask you to save them to your hard drive. For packs that install to the library, when you double click on them you will see a pop up window asking you to confirm that installation is ok as the files are described as “Legacy”. This is fine and you are ok to proceed, the packs are created using the format for an earlier version of Live and so remain compatible with the current version.

.amxd files – These are individual MaxforLive Devices and can be stored anywhere on your hard drive. We’d advise creating a folder for them and then adding that folder as a location within the Places section of Lives Browser.
