Modular Series LE Part FIVE

The Modular Series LE returns for part Five with three new MaxforLive devices that interact with Ableton Live’s API to provide useful workflow enhancements.

MODULAR SERIES PART FIVE CONTENTS

LINK TEMPO FOLLOWER

There are times when performing that you’ll want to engage or switch off Ableton Live’s Link anf Tempo Follower feature, unfortunately that’ll require you reaching for the mouse and clicking the buttons in the header.

Link Tempo Follower simplifies this with three simple buttons giving you access via MIDI or Key Mapping to control the Link Activation along with the Start/Stop Sync and the Tempo Follow feature.

AUDIO ROUTER

This one came about when in discussions with Side Brain, he’d built an amazing FX template for Push that was based on sending audio into a specific track to then be modified with a large range of FX. The process to switch the Audio Routing on your original track is possible but involves a bit of menu diving on the Push.

Audio Router grabs the names of your Tracks on start up and then populates two menus that will allow you to set up and switch between two chosen tracks with a MIDI mappable button.

CREATE MIDI CLIP

As many device of ours come about this one was a challenge from Peter Kirn of Create Digital Music who spotted the updated API command in the release notes of Ableton Live 12, not totally sure how useful this device actually is but it’s principle is simple.

Create MIDI Clip allows to to create a clip fo a defined length in arrangement view on the track the device is located in.

When we shared the first screenshot of the device Peter kindly invited people to suggest use cases for it and the most popular one was to be able to create a guide track at the top of the Ableton Live set that could be useful when working in arrangement view.

And so we extended the use from a single clip to the Structure version of the device that llows you to define sections for your clips and individual lengths. At the press of a button you can create a series of MIDI Clips representing yyour desired song structure.

Important Information

V1.0.0 – Initial Release – August 2025

Our Products are generally provided as Zip file downloads which in all cases will need to be extracted and saved to your hard drive prior to installation. Details on the different file type provided and what to do with them are below.

.alp Files – These are Ableton Live Packs and will either install directly into the Packs Section of the browser of Ableton Live or ask you to save them to your hard drive. For packs that install to the library, when you double click on them you will see a pop up window asking you to confirm that installation is ok as the files are described as “Legacy”. This is fine and you are ok to proceed, the packs are created using the format for an earlier version of Live and so remain compatible with the current version.

.amxd files – These are individual MaxforLive Devices and can be stored anywhere on your hard drive. We’d advise creating a folder for them and then adding that folder as a location within the Places section of Lives Browser.
