Fake Acoustic Drums (Volume 1) by Chaos Culture

Fake Acoustic Drums is a sample pack that consists of 512 unique one-shot drum samples, which are designed to imitate acoustic drums. Although synthesizers were purposefully used in the creation of these sounds, the point is that the resulting samples should not sound like a typical drum machine. No kick drums that consists only of a sine wave with a click, instead those sounds make use of a lot of noise and texture layers to mask the fact that they are synthesized.

But at the same time, these sounds are specifically not actual recordings of real drums. It’s a limitation that gives these sounds something uncanny and unique. Despite the fact that a lot of processing has been applied in order to achieve these results, they are not overly compressed or distorted. They are versatile and can easily be modified to fit into various mixes and music genres.

This sample pack has no filler content, no loops of the already provided one-shot samples, no duplicate sounds with added reverb or something similar. It’s a collection of 512 unique sounds, each rendered in 24 bit and a samplerate of 44100.

The download includes a .zip file with every sample in .wav format. These .wav files can be used in practically any DAW. Additionally, you can download these samples as an Ableton Live Pack, which then makes sure these samples are integrated better into Live. The Live Pack also features 8 Drum Racks Presets, each having every single sample already loaded. You can change the sample selection using the macros, making it easy to start jamming out without any manual work. Inserting these Drum Racks from Push or other MIDI controllers works in the same way as inserting any other stock Drum Rack in Live.

Frequently Asked Questions

The pack includes 512 one-shot drum samples as high-quality .wav audio files. An Ableton Live Pack is also included for seamless integration directly into Live.

There are 512 unique one-shot samples in total, broken down into 128 kicks, 128 snares, 124 percussions, 79 claps, 21 hi-hats, 15 cymbals, and 17 toms.

No, these are entirely synthesized sounds designed to imitate the character of acoustic drums without being actual recordings. The result sits in an interesting middle ground, with plenty of noise and texture to avoid sounding like a typical drum machine, whilst still retaining something distinctly synthetic and unique.

Yes, because the samples are provided as standard .wav files, they can be used in any DAW or sampler that accepts that format. The Ableton Live Pack is an additional convenience for Live users rather than a requirement.

Despite the layered synthesis techniques used to create them, the samples are not overly compressed or distorted. They are designed to be versatile and sit well in a mix without needing significant corrective processing.

The samples work well across a wide range of genres where you want the warmth and texture of acoustic drums but with a more unique, slightly uncanny character. They are particularly useful in electronic, lo-fi, hip-hop, and experimental production where blending organic feel with a synthetic edge is desirable.

Chaos Culture have not specified a minimum version requirement, but the Live Pack format is broadly compatible with modern versions of Ableton Live. If you have any concerns about compatibility with your specific setup, feel free to get in touch with us before purchasing.
