MD2: Raw Drift for Ableton Move by MID
Synthesis at its core. No samples. No shortcuts. Raw Drift strips away everything except the fundamental power of Drift synthesis, revealing what’s possible when you commit fully to sound design from the ground up.
This isn’t about emulating hardware or capturing real-world sources. Raw Drift is pure synthesis, 100 presets that push Drift’s engine to its limits, from sub-crushing kicks to crystalline pads, from razor-sharp hi-hats to evolving drones. Every sound is built from oscillators, envelopes, and modulation, demonstrating the full sonic range Drift was designed to deliver.
Developed by MID, a studio dedicated to instrument design and sonic exploration, Raw Drift treats Drift as a complete synthesis ecosystem. Whether you’re producing on Move, Note, Push 3 Standalone, or Live 12, these presets unlock new creative territory across your entire Ableton workflow.
The Synthesis
Raw Drift includes 100 presets optimized for Move and Note, and formatted for Push 3 Standalone and Live 12. This cross-platform design means you can sketch ideas on Move, refine them in Live, or perform entirely from Push 3 Standalone without losing your sonic palette.
Each preset category explores a different facet of Drift’s synthesis engine. Kicks range from analog-style 808 thuds to industrial metallic impacts. Basses span sub-frequency rumbles to mid-range growls and FM-tinged distortion. Hi-hats move from crisp digital snaps to noisy experimental textures.
Beyond percussion, Raw Drift delivers expressive melodic presets. Pads offer lush evolving atmospheres and gritty textured layers. Keys span bell-like tones, detuned clusters, and percussive attacks. The collection also includes clonks, bleeps, sweeps, and snares—each sound exploring unique modulation and timbral possibilities within Drift’s architecture.
The Sound Design Philosophy
MID’s approach to Raw Drift prioritizes expressiveness and sonic depth. Rather than creating one-shot novelties, each preset is designed to respond to velocity, evolve over time, and integrate naturally into musical contexts.
The preset names and organization make navigation intuitive. Whether you need a foundation-shaking sub for Dubstep, crisp hi-hats for Drum & Bass, or atmospheric pads for Ambient, Raw Drift’s structure gets you to the right sound fast. But the real discovery happens when you start tweaking—Drift’s macro controls and modulation remain accessible, inviting you to make each preset your own.
This collection proves that synthesis doesn’t need samples to feel organic or impactful. The slight instabilities, harmonic richness, and dynamic response in these presets come entirely from careful sound design—showing what’s achievable when you master Drift’s synthesis engine rather than relying on external sources.
Cross-Platform Power
Raw Drift recognizes that modern production rarely happens on a single device. You might start a track jamming on Move during your commute, develop it further on Push 3 Standalone in your studio, then finalize it in Live with full mixing and arrangement tools.
By providing parallel preset sets for Move/Note and Push 3/Live, Raw Drift ensures your sonic ideas translate seamlessly across platforms. The same bass sound you sketched on Move integrates perfectly when you open the project in Live. Your Push 3 Standalone performance translates directly to Move’s hardware workflow.
This cross-compatibility extends beyond convenience—it changes how you work. Hardware becomes a genuine creative starting point rather than a separate sketching tool, because your sounds remain consistent across your entire ecosystem.
The Vibe
Raw Drift speaks to producers who want to understand their tools deeply. It’s for artists who appreciate synthesis fundamentals, who want to know exactly how their sounds are constructed, and who value the creative freedom that comes from working without sample dependencies.
Whether you’re producing UK Bass, Hard Techno, IDM, Ambient, Drum & Bass, Industrial, Grime, Dub, or experimental hybrid genres, Raw Drift provides building blocks that work across styles. The presets don’t force a specific aesthetic—instead, they showcase Drift’s versatility, letting your production choices shape the final character.
