Frequently Asked Questions

What is AfroBeat Ableton Edition?

It is an Ableton Live sound pack built entirely on Drift presets and Drum Racks. It bridges Amapiano, Afro House and Melodic Techno with 100 Drift presets, 10 Drum Racks and 8 demo sessions, all shaped by a signature overtone effect that gives every sound an authentic kalimba-like harmonic character.

Which versions of Ableton Live does it support?

AfroBeat Ableton Edition is compatible with Ableton Live 11 and 12 Intro, Standard and Suite on Mac and Windows. It also runs natively on Ableton Move and Push 3.

What is the signature overtone effect?

It is a dedicated effect chain built into the Drift presets. It adds bright, bell-like overtones inspired by the kalimba, that metallic shimmer and harmonic ring that give African thumb pianos their instantly recognisable character. It is applied across basses, chords, leads and pads throughout the pack.

Can I use this pack on Ableton Move or Push 3 as well as in Live?

Yes. Because the pack is built entirely on Drift and Drum Racks, it runs natively on Ableton Move, Push 3 and Ableton Live. You can sketch a groove on Move, develop it on Push 3 and finish it in Live, with your sounds following you at every step.

What genres and styles does the pack cover?

The pack spans Amapiano, Afro House and Melodic Techno. Organic percussion, kalimba tones and Rhodes-style warmth sit alongside deep log drum bass and Moog-style duophonic basslines, covering the full range from earthy Afro groove to late-night dancefloor intensity.

Are demo projects included so I can hear the sounds in context?

Yes. Eight demo sessions are included, giving you ready-to-explore Live projects that show how the Drift presets and Drum Racks work together across different Afrobeat and Melodic Techno arrangements.

In Depth

Earth. Groove. Spirit.

Some sounds carry memory. The kalimba is one of them. AfroBeat Ableton Edition channels the soul of West Africa, the rhythmic pulse of Southern African dance music and the dark, driving energy of Melodic Techno into a single, fully Ableton-ready toolkit. Organic percussion, kalimba tones and Rhodes-style warmth sit alongside deep log drum bass and rolling Moog-style basslines, all built to move bodies and stay instantly playable from the pads of Move and Push 3 or inside any Live set.

Moog and Rhodes: the Melodic Soul of the Pack

At the heart of this pack live two voices: the Moog and the Rhodes. The Moog-style presets bring analog depth and character, warm and rounded, with duophonic lines that carry grit and movement. They are built in Drift and fully tweakable from pads and encoders. The Rhodes follows a hybrid approach: sampled tones loaded into dedicated Drum Racks for organic character, paired with Drift presets for harmonic depth and hands-on control. Chord voicings, single-note lines, soft attack and natural sustain, the two instruments complement each other across the full melodic range of Amapiano, Afro House and Melodic Techno. Running through it all is the kalimba, individual sampled tones mapped across the Drum Racks, ready to shimmer on top of every groove.

The Overtone Effect: the Signature of the Pack

What sets AfroBeat apart is a dedicated effect built into every preset. It adds bright, bell-like overtones inspired by the kalimba, that metallic shimmer and harmonic ring that make African thumb pianos so instantly recognisable. Applied across the Drift presets, it transforms basses, chords, leads and pads alike, giving every sound a distinctly African colour. Even a simple bassline or a sustained pad takes on that living, resonant quality, as if played on hand-tuned metal tines. When you load a preset in your session, hear that overtone bloom and you will know the pack has its own voice.

Organic Rhythm: the Heartbeat of the Pack

Afro music breathes. It does not quantise. It swings, leans, pushes and pulls with human intention. Every drum and percussion sound across the 10 Drum Racks was chosen to capture that living quality. Kicks with weight and warmth. Claps with room and body. Shakers that groove in the pocket without sitting perfectly on the grid. Metal percussion and tonal strikes that answer the melody like a conversation. Load a rack on Move or Push 3 and the groove is under your fingers from the first bar.

Low End: Deep, Purposeful, Grounded

The bass in Afro music is not decorative. It is structural. Log drum-inspired Drift presets anchor every groove with a focused, rounded low end that sits naturally under percussion without muddying the mix. Moog-style duophonic basses add analog weight and movement, two voices interlocking for fat, driving lines that push the pack straight into Melodic Techno territory. Deep sub-bass presets give you the flexibility to lock down a hypnotic two-bar loop or build a full harmonic bass movement across a track.

Melodic Techno: Where Africa Meets the Dark Side of the Dancefloor

AfroBeat does not stop at Amapiano and Afro House. At its core lies a strong Melodic Techno identity, driven by the Moog-style duophonic basses. Rolling, analog-flavoured lines with grit and movement pulse beneath kalimba overtones and organic percussion, creating that hypnotic tension between earthy groove and late-night intensity. Layer a driving bassline with an evolving pad, add a shimmering kalimba phrase, and you are deep in Afro Melodic Techno territory, the sound that fills dancefloors from Johannesburg to Berlin.

One Pack, Three Ableton Platforms

Built entirely on Drift and Drum Racks, AfroBeat runs natively on Ableton Move, Ableton Live and Push 3. Sketch a groove on Move, develop it on Push 3, finish it in Live. Your sounds follow you at every step, because your workflow should not have to change when your hardware does.
