Description

Ghosts is a random looping melodic sequencer inspired by the classic arcade game PacMan (but it hasn’t got the hero in it!)

The 8×8 grid represents a maze in which the ghosts will move around. Whenever a ghost reaches a junction, they make a random decision of which way to go. When ghosts land on a yellow step, a note is triggered. When they land on a blue step a speed boost / reduction is triggered for a specified amount of steps. Landing on an orange step triggers and accentuated note.

Up to four ghosts can run simultaneously and each have their own dedicated controls such as speed and note information.

Within the Ableton Live pack you’ll find devices that are compatible with Novation LaunchPad MKI, MKII, Pro, Native Instruments Maschine Jam, Ableton Push 1 & 2 as well as a universal device that can be used with any MIDI Controller via MIDI Mapping or the mouse and keyboard.

Across the Arcade Series Returns is an inbuilt loop feature which can work on an individual element or globally. When you come up with a rhythm or melody you want to save you can also press a single button and export the pattern directly into an Ableton Live MIDI clip.

INSTALLATION

Our Products are generally provided as Zip file downloads which in all cases will need to be extracted and saved to your hard drive prior to installation. Details on the different file type provided and what to do with them are below.

.alp Files – These are Ableton Live Packs and will install directly into the Packs Section of the browser of Ableton Live. When you double click on them you will see a pop up window asking you to confirm that installation is ok as the files are described as “Legacy”. This is fine and you are ok to proceed, the packs are created using the format for an earlier version of Live and so remain compatible with the current version.

.amxd files – These are individual MaxforLive Devices and can be stored anywhere on your hard drive. We’d advise creating a folder for them and then adding that folder as a location within the Places section of Lives Browser.

Control Surface Scripts – Please refer to the individual User Guides provided with your download, an abridged version of the installation will be shown further down this page.

ClyphX Pro – Please refer directly to the manual and installation video for this specific product.

Novation Circuit Packs – These are provided as individual Sysex Files and as a complete bank file. All are to be installed using a version of the Circuit Editor and not via Novations Components back up utility.

DEVELOPER

Mark Towers

Based in Leicester, England, Mark is an artist, developer and educator in electronic music. As an Ableton Certified Trainer, much of Mark’s work is deeply entwined with Ableton Live and custom Max for Live devices which focus on offering unique ways of creating, performing and interacting with the music making process. As well as software development with Isotonik Studios, Mark also designs and builds music installations and custom hardware all with a continuing goal: making music fun. As a keen enthusiast of quirky electronic music hardware, Mark’s first steps in the world of Max for Live saw the development of Push Pong, a generative sequencer that uses the 8×8 button grid on Push as a bouncing ball melodic generator. The success of this free device led onto the development of the Arcade Series and the Arcade Series Returns; a collection of Max for Live sequencers all inspired by classic arcade games that make use of supported grid-based controllers for Live.Mark’s latest device, the Multi Analyser, which is a multi-channel frequency analyser for mixing, makes use of a new feature in Live 10 whereby multiple audio tracks in Live can be routed to a single Max for Live device. This has undoubtedly been one of Mark’s most popular devices and led to the development of the Multi Analyser XL offering even more in-demand features to aid the mixing process.Mark is currently working on new controller-based sequencer devices and a number of collaborative projects with fellow developers and sound designers. For more info on hardware/music installation projects out:  https://marktowers.net/projects/
