Fire:Euclidean Mode by Mark Towers

If you loved Polypin from Ableton Certified Trainer, Mark Towers then you’re going to love this new Euclidean Mode sequencer that can be controlled by the mouse or directly from the AKAI Fire when use in conjunction with nativeKONTROL’s Crossfire Control Surface Script.

With the latest version you can also control the device from the dials of the Push 1 & 2 along with the Akai Force.

Inspired by the 16 x 4 layout of the Fire’s button matrix, Crossfire Euclidean Mode allows for up to 16 patterns each with up to 32 steps.

  • 16 Patterns
  • 1-32 Steps per Pattern
  • Velocity Variation Engine

PLEASE NOTE: The AKAI Fire integration is only possible if you have the Crossfire Control Surface Script – GET IT HERE

Frequently Asked Questions

No, the device can be controlled entirely via mouse within Ableton Live. However, to unlock full hardware control from the AKAI Fire, you will need nativeKONTROL’s Crossfire Control Surface Script installed separately.

The Crossfire Control Surface Script is a third-party script developed by nativeKONTROL that enables deep hardware integration between the AKAI Fire and Max for Live devices like this one. You can find it via the link provided on the product page.

The device supports the AKAI Fire (via the Crossfire Control Surface Script), the Akai Force, and Push 1 and 2 for dial-based control. You can also use it with just a mouse if you don’t have any of these controllers.

Euclidean sequencing distributes a set number of beats as evenly as possible across a sequence of steps, producing rhythmic patterns found in many world music traditions. It’s a great way to generate polyrhythmic grooves and unexpected rhythmic textures that go well beyond standard step sequencing.

Crossfire Euclidean Mode gives you up to 16 independent patterns, each with between 1 and 32 steps, making it well suited for complex, evolving polyrhythmic arrangements.

The Velocity Variation Engine introduces dynamic variation to the velocity of triggered notes, helping your patterns feel more alive and less mechanical straight out of the box.

Crossfire Euclidean Mode is a Max for Live device, so you will need Ableton Live Suite or a copy of Live with a Max for Live licence. Check the product page for any specific version requirements before purchasing.

Important Information

  • Added support for the dials of the Push 1 & 2 and AKAI FORCE

V1.0 – Released 29/2/2020

Our Products are generally provided as Zip file downloads which in all cases will need to be extracted and saved to your hard drive prior to installation. Details on the different file type provided and what to do with them are below.

.alp Files – These are Ableton Live Packs and will either install directly into the Packs Section of the browser of Ableton Live or ask you to save them to your hard drive. For packs that install to the library, when you double click on them you will see a pop up window asking you to confirm that installation is ok as the files are described as “Legacy”. This is fine and you are ok to proceed, the packs are created using the format for an earlier version of Live and so remain compatible with the current version.

.amxd files – These are individual MaxforLive Devices and can be stored anywhere on your hard drive. We’d advise creating a folder for them and then adding that folder as a location within the Places section of Lives Browser.
