If you’ve ever performed live with Elektron’s Analog Rytm, you’ll know the joy of its mute mode—tactile, instant, and incredibly useful. That same performance-first philosophy is now available in Ableton Live, thanks to Push Mute, a Max for Live device developed in collaboration with Isotonik Studios.

Designed specifically for Ableton Push (including Push 3 Standalone), Push Mute brings fast, flexible, and expressive control over your Drum Rack mute states—directly from your hardware.

What Is Push Mute?

Push Mute is a Max for Live device that enables pad muting within Drum Racks using the Push’s grid. It transforms how you perform with drums, offering simple yet powerful features that mirror the intuitive feel of Elektron’s hardware.

Key features include:

  • One-tap mute and unmute of individual pads
  • Latch and momentary mute modes
  • Multi-pad selection for quick group mutes
  • Save and recall mute states using macro pads
  • Full integration with all pads in a Drum Rack—not just the visible 4×4 grid

Easy Setup

Getting started takes just seconds:

  1. Drop Push Mute before your Drum Rack in the device chain.
  2. On Push, activate it by holding the Shift button.
  3. Pads turn green when active, grey when muted.

Use the dial on Push Mute’s device to toggle between momentary mode (mutes only while Shift is held) and latch mode(toggle mutes on and off with taps).

Mute Multiple Pads Instantly

Need to mute all snares, hats, or a custom group of pads at once? Push Mute lets you do exactly that.

Here’s how:

  • While in mute mode, hold the Select button.
  • Tap all the pads you want to mute or unmute. They’ll turn blue to show they’re queued.
  • Release Select to apply the mute or unmute command.

This makes it easy to manage complex kits during performance without missing a beat.

Save Mute Groups with Macros

Push Mute lets you save and recall entire mute setups using macro pads, offering powerful scene-style control for drums.

To create a mute group:

  1. Activate mute mode and select the desired pads.
  2. Hold Select and tap a macro pad to save the mute configuration.

You can save multiple mute states this way—for example:

  • All drums active
  • Only hi-hats muted
  • Minimal kick/snare groove

This essentially gives you a basic “song mode” for your drum performances, all at your fingertips.

To clear a saved macro, hold Select and tap it again.

Works Beyond the 4×4 Grid

Push Mute isn’t limited to what you see on the Push grid. You can mute any pad in the full Drum Rack range, including those that live outside the 16-pad view. This gives you complete control over large and detailed drum kits.

Why Push Mute Matters

Push Mute is designed for performers who want tactile, expressive control over their drum parts—without relying on a laptop screen. It bridges the gap between software flexibility and hardware immediacy.

Perfect for:

  • Live electronic musicians using Push
  • DJs building dynamic transitions
  • Producers who perform their arrangements on the fly
